The Reading Report

Things are good at the Reading house! It is officially fall and we are realizing how much we've missed it for the past 6 years! I love wearing sweaters and not sweating. I love the beautiful trees and cool temps and crisp air. It's my happy place. There has been a lot happening around here and it's the beginning of a very exciting season with the holiday's and my due date approaching. First we've had to knock out some of the seasonal illnesses. Ella has had a cold and ear infection, Luca has had a cold and I have had the flu, a sinus infection AND bronchitis. Yuck. Oh to have Mike's immune system! He's remained healthy and has taken good care of all of us.
These are just some selfies I found on my phone one day of a daddy/daughter beauty shop session. They are so cute together :)
I think we've finally got our "routine" down and have settled into the school year. They both are loving school. Ella has made a lot of little friends!  And she FINALLY earned her "certipiclate" (certificate) for good behavior! This girl has been working so hard since the first day of school to get one of those things and she finally earned one. She was so happy. She was getting down on herself because she "kept being good but didn't get a certipiclate!" I assured her that she would eventually earn one and told her that making good choices was the right thing to do and we should do it because it's the right thing-not just for rewards. So what did I do when she finally got to bring the along awaited certificate home? We went and bought a new barbie. The exact opposite of what I would tell any parent to do as a teacher. Sorry not sorry :) The girl worked for a whole month!
Luca is Mr. independent and loves school as well. Ella still wants to be walked in and Luca won't let me through the doors because he wants to walk in all by himself "just like Ella" :) He wants to go every day and asks about homework haha. His only complaint...apparently there are no trains on the train table??? Every day I ask him about school, that is included. And when other people talk about school he wants to know if there are trains for the train table. Mike made some joke about college someday and Luca asked if there would be trains on the table at college :) He talked for the whole first month of school about a mouse and I wasn't sure what it was all about until he brought this little book home. Cutest. Thing. Ever.
Part 1
Part 2

We are 30 weeks along now. We just booked a maternity/family photo session. And this morning during church (confession) all of my thoughts and ideas came together for the nursery and I now have a direction! I've been frustrated with it the whole time...but the skies parted and a vision came to me so maybe just maybe I'll pull it together before he's here :)

This little guy is still causing all sorts of trouble. His latest "adventures": cracking a dozen eggs in my refrigerator and flushing an apple down the toilet. Here he is watering the flower he put in his pocket. This morning after church Milo and I chased him all the way to our house. That was a sight to see. I'm trying to get close enough to make sure to stop a car in the parking lot that may not see him and to keep him from running in the road-but he's like a dog. The more I chase him, the faster he runs and the farther he goes. The bulk of my day is spend keeping him alive. No lie.

Ella had her first friend over the other day! These girls have just clicked and become instant besties. They play soccer together and are in the same class. It has made the transition to school so much easier for both of us! I felt so good knowing Ella had a friend in class on her first day after a summer of worries.
I went downstairs to check on them and offer some snacks and found this sign :) It has begun!
Luca FINALLY had his 3 year wellness check! Mike has Fridays off so now that Ella is in school, Luca gets special Mommy and Daddy time. I love that because we've never had that together!  Friday we took him for his well check and he did great.
He loved getting to be big. He's a whopping 38 inches tall and 32 pounds. 50th percentile.
He told the doctor about all of his endeavors lately and the doctor said he sounded like a perfectly healthy vivacious 3 year old boy. And we agree!

Ella and Sofia at soccer. In Texas, the soccer games were cancelled for the rain. In Seattle, we play in the rain or we don't play!

 All for now folks!
We've decorated for Halloween, I'm trying to finish up some little home projects and the nursery and I'm planning ahead for the holidays since I will be slightly busy with a new one. I love having festive kids. We've pulled out all the halloween movies and they are watching one as we speak! Hopefully soon I'll have a nursery to report on :)

29 Week Bumpdate

My little man Milo is baking away and will be here to join us in just 11 short weeks! My tiny tenant is getting bigger by the day, although I can definitely tell he's not as big as Luca was. I love feeling him grow.  He has been so active lately and let me tell you he is STRONG!

New symptoms this month: HeArTbUrN. Burn baby burn. Burns bad :-( Bending over and eating full meals in one sitting are a thing of the past. No room! Also, something totally new to me for any pregnancy is sore spots on my tummy. I have three spots that hurt terribly if I touch them and definitely if when Milo kicks them! Dr. McClennan said I have a thin abdominal wall from multiple pregnancies and mostly from Luca's size on my frame so I can feel more b/c there isn't as much of a barrier between me and him. I'm happy to report the grumps have subsided a bit and I'm just left with a few mood swings here and there.

My nesting urges have kicked in and our cozy home has turned into "Hotel Reading" as Mike calls it. I prefer to maintain a 5 star rating as well ;) Everything has a place and everything in it's place! Not so much of a home that a family lives in but more like a model home of sorts haha. Mike is gracious and the kids are annoyed. I'm going crazy cleaning, organizing, crafting, decorating, sewing...projects galore! everytime I clean my house I redecorate and as tired as I am these days, it actuallt fuels me to finish all of my little home improvement projects. I just wish I could filter some of this energy and focus to cooking! I'm hoping to gather some more things I need for baby and for the nursery soon so I can quit mopping his floor and dusting his furniture over and over and start working on other things :)

Last doctor check up went well. We are right on track! I've gained 10 lbs total from my starting weight. I passed the lovely glucose test and praised God that day that I would never have to drink that stuff ever again. Luca however helped himself to my first bottle and loved it! My doctor sent me home with my drink so I would have it for my next appointment and little Luca Bo snuck in the fridge, popped the seal and had himself a little treat! The sweet boy still can't figure out how to take is own clothes off, but can pop the seal on a medical drink and go to town. It's neon orange sugar in liquid form! What's not to love?

I'm getting so excited to meet this baby and fall in love. I lay in bed at night and just wonder who he is and what he'll be like. As the 30 week mark approaches, I'm really starting to realize and accept that THIS IS HAPPENING! We are having a baby. My heart is happy and I have so much peace. I'm ready to complete my little family.

My Doyanna!!!

My BFFAE came to visit me in Seattle! My mom came to move us in-but we just worked the whole time so this girl was my first real visitor! Playing chauffeur for the first time was...interesting. :) I'm not much of a pro around here just quite yet and this was my first time venturing out without Mike-but who better to cause a little trouble and cause some shenanigans with?!?!
We started out our first day at the space needle.
We played around at the top and then went into the cafe to enjoy the view and chat over chai :) We caught up on life and celebrated 18 years of friendship. Time, distance, kids, age, jobs and/or LIFE itself hasn't been able to take away our special bond :)

Day 2 didn't go quite as planned. Somehow I forgot to put gas in my car? Aaaaand it didn't go capouie until I was on my way to pick up Luca from school. Last time this happened was with this girl...ON MY WEDDING DAY. My mom's comment was about right..."some things never change!" Anyway, between our "adventures" and such...we got tired. We explored my neighborhood and I took her to old Ballard and we shopped around.
On day 3, we conquered public transportation and ventured downtown. Another first for me! We figured out bus stops and routes and made it to the public market, dined and maneuvered the shops downtown somehow with the bus and trolleys and made it home. It surprisingly went much smoother than driving around the day before in my neighborhood.
(I want one of these umbrellas)
Do we look like we know what we are doing?

On her last night we took her to a yummy seafood dinner down at Salmon Bay fisherman's terminal.

Diana and her wittle flower girl!!!

On another note...pretty pretty pippa had to be shaved :-( Lola likes to chew on her like a toy and the hair was out of control and beyond repair. She's so tiny!
Our lady Lola...lookin alllll innocent and cute.

Back to School 2013

First I just have to say it is so fun getting to be on this side of things. Just the mama. It's weird not being the teacher on the first day of school but I am so excited and feel so blessed that I get to be on the mom side 100%! It's going to be a fun year.
Nana B sent the kids some little back to school treats in the mail. So much fun and best Nana EVER! The kids love mail and this got them super excited about the upcoming school year :)
Who has two thumbs up and is ready to rock preschool?
THIS GUY!
First we had Luca's meet the teacher. This is his first year in pre-school. His teacher is Miss Laura.
He seemed so teeny tiny there. It broke my heart a little! I just still see so much baby in him and it's hard to let go and know he'll be ok! He has no clue what it means to go to school and I know he doesn't realize we are going to leave him. When Ella first went to pre-school at 3, she knew exactly where she was going, what she was doing and what it was all about. He will have fun-this I'm sure of.
This year, Luca said he wants to be a ghost when he grows up :) and Ella wants to be a singer! Her latest (and frequent) comment to me is, "mom, I was born to be a singer!" You go girl!
This was Ella last year. She wanted to be a singing mommy :)
Next we had Ella's meet the teacher, Miss Harrington, and kindergarten tea! She was so excited. She ran this far ahead of me the whole way to school. She has a little friend she made on her soccer team that we found out was also going to kindergarten and Whittier. And THEN...we found out they got in the same class! It just keeps getting better! She really needed that and it has calmed her fears so so so much. She's worried about being new to Seattle and not knowing people. She keeps saying, "but I know Sofia!"
Of course we came armed with beginning of the year teacher gift!
Those teachers work hard-this I know!
Ella and Sofia on their classroom scavenger hunt...
Her classroom is very organized... and super cute too :) My kind of teacher!

getting settled in with our school supplies and feeling GREAT!
She told me she wasn't nervous anymore :) She told me all day that she loved me and was so thankful that I have been "keeping watch over her this summer" hahaha. I could tell her mind was processing and thinking through some things. I thought we had conquered the fears making a couple of new friends and meeting her teacher, and then that night, twas the night before kindergarten...
We were getting all tucked into bed and she starts to worry again. She's boo-hooing and whaling because she's worried. She says a bunch of things like, "I won't have as much time to play with Luca," and "what if they ask me what the letter G is?!?! I DON'T KNOW THE LETTER G!!!!" Then we got down to the bottom of it and she was sad and worried because, "it is the first time I will be away from you since we moved to Seattle." This is true my love. The changes from the move have really settled in with her and he is just now working through them. I KNOW kindergarten will help her through this...we've just got to get her there. She was up until about 10 and FINALLY fell asleep! We woke up, prayed, I read the kids all of their text messages from family wishing them a happy first day. We got all ready to go and set sail for the first day of school.
Hand in hand.
First day of Kindergarten!

Ella and Miss Harrington!
All smiles. At the same table as Sofia (not sure how long that will last) ;) and happy. We made it!
And would you look at how organized that crayon box is? An organized worrier...just like her mama. :/
After we dropped Ella off, it was Luca Bo's turn! Luca hasn't really understood that he's going to school. Ella's been the one really processing through excitement and worry so we've been focusing on getting her though that. Once we got Ella settled, it hit me that I was sending my BABY to school for the first time EVER!!!
Here's our little stud muffin with his teacher gift.
First day of pre-school 3's! Super Luca!
We were a little late dropping him off since the parents got to stay at Whittier for a while. I definitely wasn't going to be the first one to leave and I may or may not have been the last :) So when we got to Luca's school, story time had started...only 10 minutes late!!! We hung up his little backpack, washed his hands, gave him a kiss and had to send him in the room by himself! He was so confused! He walked in with his little teacher gift in tow and had to go sit at the carpet for the story. He didn't cry and only looked back at us a couple of times. I of course sat with my face plastered to the tiny sliver of a window on the door watching to make sure he was ok. He just sat there and listened to the story holding on to the little bag. All I saw was his little baby face...a little confused...listening to the story. I wanted so badly to walk in there with him and then felt guilty about being late. He's fine, but I was not. I went home an absolute mess and have been worried all morning. Ella was the one I fretted about the most. We made lots of preparations and she rocked it. Luca was the one I ended up crying about all morning. I had a cute little first day outfit all picked out...but he wanted to wear his new shoes so new shoes and different outfit it was! He's so excited about his train backpack too...
I'm blogging this now as I sit and count the minutes to go pick them up! Don't get me wrong-I'm ready to enjoy some quiet moments while the kids are learning away...but maybe not the first day. It's a big first day for both kids...and mama too.

So fast forward a little bit and we went to pick her up. If it was physically possible, I probably would have ran the whole way there :) We waited inside for her and this sweet girl came running out of line on their way out once she saw us with a BIG smile on her face! She knows now that everything is going to be ok and she had a great first day of kindergarten. She said she started to cry when we left but then stopped herself. She had wonderful things to say about her teacher, kids she met and her day. God is good. We did it. Happy day!
When we went to pick up Luca I resumed my spy session through the window. He was sitting at the carpet. So big.
He saw us right before they dismissed as they were opening the doors and he came barreling out and into my arms! He was happy. His teacher said he did great. No tears and just came in like he's been there before.

Luca and Miss Laura...or Miss Rorie according to him :)
And we're off for first day treats! Larsens Bakery...the kids choice.
